D.I.Y. kid stuff: Bath Paints

This one saved us today, it was an indoor rainy day. Mr. JH had 2 baths today, per his request. I found this recipe in an old binder from my daycare/nanny days, I actually found a treasure trove of fun ideas that I totally forgot about. This is a perfect bad weather indoor activity or even a nice weather bring it outside next to the pool/sprinkler if you would like.

Supplies:

:: shaving cream (the foaming kind)

:: food coloring

:: muffin tin

:: paint brushes

Directions:
  1. Spray shaving cream in each muffin cup
  2. Use one drop of food coloring per cup
  3. Stir to blend color
  4. Prop it on the side of the tub on something slip proof like a towel (says the mom who found out the hard way 2 minutes into this activity)
  5. Give your kids paint brushes and let them go to town. They can paint the walls, themselves, bath toys, and if you are willing their parents :)
Notes:

Use a sensitive/fragrance free variety of shaving cream, definitely don't use menthol as this could hurt little ones eyes.

Each parent knows their child's sensitivity to products. You could also bring this outdoors and let them do this with bathing suits on and then run through the sprinkler to wash it off.

You could use natural dyes if food coloring worries you, while we avoid it in general I thought this was fine for us.

This was another activity that kept my spirited 3 year old focused and busy for a very long time!

We have a tub insert and I had no issues cleaning after the bath, if there is any soap scum present the dye may cling on top of that.

Do you have a sanity saving rainy day activity to share?
